Obsolescence Management for Procurement Parts

Project

A medium-sized aircraft manufacturer is planning to relaunch a successful short-haul aircraft in turboprop and jet versions. Where possible, existing structures are to be retained. However, these are to be brought up to the latest state of the art with modern materials, components, equipment and parts. Existing supply chains are only known in the case of maintenance.

The aim of the project was to find out which components in the current development are obsolete without the explicit support of ERP and PLM systems. By creating a generic “bill of material”, the experts from CRAB Analytics were able to quickly obtain an overview of the critical components.

In a second step, the client placed particular emphasis on a self-sufficient approach and a results-oriented hands-on mentality in our support. A clearly understandable score card showed the progress made and solutions found. Our explicit market knowledge enabled us to make targeted contact with the required partners in order to quickly solve the identified problems.

Production reliability through improved material availability

Project

The challenge was to improve material availability as quickly as possible and stabilize the production flow. An additional difficulty arose from the post-corona situation: limited stock buffers and a lack of available skilled workers met with increasing customer demand.

Thanks to our consultants' many years of practical experience, CRAB Analytics was able to intervene immediately at an operational level as well as provide targeted support for planning at material number level in order to relieve the planning processes. In addition, sustainable approaches were developed and introduced to stabilize the low-price segment in the long term via stock buffers. Finally, the high-price segment was successfully optimized through the introduction of an improved forecasting system and more precise material planning.

CRAB Analytics succeeded in sustainably improving material availability by 80% compared to the initial value. It is particularly noteworthy that all measures were accompanied by training so that the customer's material planning department was able to work independently on continuous improvement.
